Wat Pho & Wat Arun,
the way locals see them.

Four hours. Two temples. One ferry. Zero coach buses. A Bangkokian guide who can tell you why the Reclining Buddha's feet have mother-of-pearl inlay, and where the best coconut ice cream is hiding behind it.

What you'll do

This is the half-day walk we send first-time visitors on. Wat Pho is the largest temple compound in Bangkok and the home of traditional Thai massage — we'll start there before the noon coaches arrive. Then we cross the Chao Phraya on the 4-baht local ferry (not the tourist boat) and spend the afternoon at Wat Arun, climbing the central prang for the view the postcards stole.

Itinerary

  1. 9:00Meet at Tha Tien pier, Khlong Lod side

Look for the woman holding a small Folkpaths flag (we promise, the only flag we own). Coffee in hand if you want it — we know the place.

  2. 9:15Wat Pho — the Reclining Buddha & massage school

46m of gold leaf, 108 auspicious symbols inlaid in the feet, and a courtyard of stone giants that everyone walks past. We won't.

  3. 10:30Coconut ice cream + foot break

A short walk to the same stall our guide's mother has gone to since 1979. Eat it before it melts onto your shoes.

  4. 11:15Local ferry across the Chao Phraya

Three minutes, four baht, all the wind in your face. The river is a working road and you'll see it.

  5. 11:30Wat Arun — central prang & the murals nobody talks about

Climb the prang for the riverbank view, then we'll walk the back ordination hall where the murals beat the famous ones two blocks away.

  6. 13:00Wrap-up at a riverside café (your tab on)

Optional — we'll drop you somewhere you can stay for hours if you want. Or wave goodbye at the BTS.
